Art for Auction
The AAAC advocates for local artists and arts organizations. One of the ways artists show their support for the arts council is by donating work for fundraising events. Some of the pieces coming up for auction at the Crystal Ball will soon be posted online.
Background
The Asheville Area Arts Council (AAAC) is one of the oldest Arts Councils in the country, tracing its roots back to 1952. Over the past 58 years through programs and grants, it has nurtured and subsidized the creative efforts of artists of all backgrounds, art forms and stages of development. Much like those artists the Council supports, the AAAC today is a refinement of past experiences and paths explored during its colorful evolution. Over the years, a variety of annual fundraising balls were held to celebrate the Arts, the artists and the supporters of the Arts. In 2002, these events became known as the Color Balls, spanning the palette from blue, orange, pink, green, red, white and purple. The past is known. The future is in the making. The Crystal Ball is both a celebration of the many facets of our creative community and a look into the future of the Arts Council, and will prove to be an enlightening stepping stone to the next color ball. The Grand Bohemian Hotel Asheville is the perfect sponsor for the Crystal Ball with original art on every floor of the hotel and the Grand Bohemian Gallery that showcases art by local, regional and internationally recognized artists.
