Intro — Emerging Ceramicists in Western North Carolina
December 1, 2017 - January 5, 2018
The AAAC is pleased to host Akira Satake‘s ceramic invitational, Intro — Emerging Ceramicists in Western North Carolina from December 1, 2017 – January 5, 2018. This year we will be highlighting some of Buncombe County’s best emerging ceramic artists.
“The thing that defines a tradition is the way it grows and develops over time. No traditional art form, whether it be music, painting or ceramics, remains static and easily labeled for very long. New influences are always coming into play, as upcoming generations learn to appreciate and revere the work of established artists but are inevitably inspired to interpret the art in new and sometimes brilliant ways.
This year, we look towards a fresh generation of potters inspired by the rich traditions of our region’s ceramics. We are very proud to feature these exceptional young artists in the exhibition, Intro — Emerging Ceramicists in Western North Carolina, and we look forward to seeing how their talents and vision shape the traditions of our ceramic heritage in the coming years.”
Participating artists: Anja Bartels, Amanda Hollomon-Cook, Candice Hensley, Dustin Fowler, Kristen Schoonover, Matt Wegleitner, Micah Thanhauser, Molly Morning-Glory, Nina Kawar, Samantha Oliver, Tara Underwood, The Bright Angle
An opening reception will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 pm in the Thom Robinson and Ray Griffin Gallery in the Refinery Creator Space on Friday, December 1, 2017. The artist talk will be given by curator, Akira Stake at 6:30.
