Artist’s Reception: Friday, June 5th, 5pm – 8pm

The AAAC is excited to announce that artist Mark Flowers will exhibit his mixed media paintings in an exhibition called “Working Memory” at the Asheville Area Arts Council Gallery located in the Grove Arcade.

Mark Flowers earned a BFA from The University of South Carolina and an MFA from Western Michigan University. He began showing his work in Asheville in 1980. His works gained exposure regionally, nationally, and internationally. He and his artist wife, Kristy Higby, own Mountain Tea Studios located just north of Asheville in Alexander.

The collection which comprises “Working Memory” consists mostly of wood and found objects. He describes these paintings as “having many layers; formally, it is about shape, objective and non-objective imagery existing in the same field. The interaction of image, shape, and surface appeals to me.Conceptually, they are about telling small stories of insight. I see my work as visual poetry making sense of the world around me.”
