Our mountains are booming with an amazing array of talented individuals and organizations. This creativity has been the heart of our region for generations, but are we growing as a culturally rich community? How is the creative sector evolving? What developments are taking place throughout the city and county related to the arts? How do individuals and organizations approach their work in today’s fast paced, multifaceted world?
Join the AAAC and the City of Asheville on Friday, April 21 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm at The Collider where we will explore Innovation in the Arts by turning a microscope on our community. Together we will learn the steps we are taking and goals we can strive for to ensure our creative culture is at the heart of decisions that affect us all.
Ticket sales begin on March 1, 2017 at www.ashevillearts.com. Stay tuned for full details!
Featuring keynote speaker:
Dan Bowers, President, ArtsBuild, Chattanooga, TN
About Mr. Bowers:
Dan Bowers has been President of ArtsBuild in Chattanooga, TN, for nine years. Bowers has spent his career in nonprofit fundraising. Prior to joining ArtsBuild he served as president of the Memorial Health Care System Foundation from 2001 to 2007. Bowers spent 22 years with United Ways, serving as Executive Director of the United Way of Etowah County in Gadsden, AL, from 1980 to 1988. He served the United Way of Greater Chattanooga from 1988 to 2001, six years as the organization’s Campaign Director and eight years as its President. During his tenure at ArtsBuild, the organization spearheaded a community-wide cultural planning initiative, Imagine Chattanooga 20/20. This planning effort not only created a vision for the arts in the Chattanooga area, but also helped transform ArtsBuild, which was rebranded in 2012 from its former identity as Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga. ArtsBuild has broadened its mission and deepened its involvement in community development. Bowers is a graduate of the University of Alabama and an avid photographer. He and his wife, Suzie, have two grown sons.
