Don’t let the #’s fool you, they’re right next door!
It’s that time of the year again! Stop into the Refinery Creator Space and Open Hearts Art Center to meet the artists in their studios and shop handmade goods for all of your gift giving needs. You can participate in activities with Majik Studios, Asheville Makers, Erica Stankwytch Bailey, and the AAAC. Have a holiday beverage and tour two new exhibitions in the Refinery’s galleries. More event details below:
Joining Erica Stankwytch Bailey in the studio is the The Bloomery. They will be offering an interactive resin pendant activity for $12-$28 dollars, appropriate for children and adults. For more information visit https://m.facebook.com/bloomeryasheville/.
Majik Studios will have a mini market with each artist’s products displayed. Peruse the variety of fine art products created right here in Asheville. Demonstrations and make ‘n’ take booths will be open. Individual costs will apply. Janice Lape will let each participant watercolor a mini painting while demonstrating techniques. Janelle Lucido will guide each person in the weaving process of a 12 inch God’s Eye Ornament. Stephanie Sipp will guide you as you use copic markers to add color to a local nature design suitable for framing. Megan Tichy will help you create the perfect holiday message through calligraphy with a festive border. Pam Granger Gale will have blank holiday ball ornaments ready to dip and marble.
Exhibition Space – Stop into the large gallery to see the December exhibit, Asheville Through Brown Eyes. Then, stamp your own wrapping paper with the AAAC staff or create origami ornaments with the students of the Asheville School. $12 for premade block printed wrapping paper | $5 to block print your own wrapping paper | $3 origami ornaments
The Asheville Makers is hosting its annual Laser Engrave a Holiday Ornament Event again this year! For those of you not familiar with the event, your kids (or you!) can make a drawing with a black sharpie and they will use their laser cutters/engravers to engrave it onto a round plywood or acrylic ornament. Text can be added if you want your child’s name, the year, etc. on the ornament. The Makers will have paper and sharpies to create artwork here, or feel free to bring your own black and white drawing with you. (If you bring your own drawing, please note that high contrast works best since we will have to scan the drawing before etching it with the laser. The ornament size is roughly a 4″ circle).
