Asheville Darkroom Group Exhibit
August 3 - September 28
The Asheville Area Arts Council is excited to welcome the Asheville Darkroom back into the Front Gallery! The Asheville Darkroom presents a group show covering various photographic mediums form it’s members and directors from August 3 – September 28.
The Darkroom’s goal is to provide the city and surrounding areas with an accessible and affordable space to learn and practice traditional photography, and to learn digital processes where applicable. They provide services and education as Asheville’s only public darkroom facility. They value life-long education, accessibility to all who wish to learn technical processes and artistic practices, and forums for individuals to learn and share their expressions and experiences.
They aim to foster a community of individuals that use photography as an art form through group critiques, artist presentations, topic discussions, and film screenings as well as classes, workshops, and community printing access. They strive to provide access and education at the lowest costs possible for individuals within the local community who can not otherwise afford to build a functional darkroom for their own personal use and who would like a lower-cost option for learning more about traditional photographic processes.
The Darkroom offers a variety of classes and workshops where individuals can learn photographic processes and subjects from credentialed instructors over a long-term basis. They hope to become a principal organization in Asheville that sustains community involvement and appreciation for photographic-art making.
Participating Artists: Benjamin Dimmitt, Tim Lewis, Susan Patrice, Daniel Abide, Byron Browne, Michelle Cade, Brit Davis, Felicity Green, Steve Homer, and Elliot Kulwiec.
The Asheville Darkroom Members Exhibit will be on display in the Front Gallery of the Refinery Creator Space August 3 – September 28, 2018. The opening reception will Friday, August 3, from 5:00- 8:00pm.
