The Cloud Show
April 5 - May 3
The Asheville Area Arts Council is excited to host The Cloud Show curated by Coco Villa, April 5 – May 3, 2019.
Nebulous, soft, & ever-morphing
This space is ethereal and flowing. The vision is an exhibit that brings together artwork around the theme of clouds, from fellow creators in Asheville. Conversations about bodies, forms and colors — inspired by paintings, sculpture, and movement. “Cloud” is a theme that is accessible and open. One sees a cloud not as what it is, but rather what they intuit it to be. A cloud is a mirror hanging above our heads reflecting the truth in an ever-undulating stream of suspended water molecules. It is both lofty and relatable. These qualities invoke a simple yet deep invitation to reflect. We imagine an audience entering a gallery with the simple task of looking at clouds, yet disrupting expectations of what a cloud may look like.
Clouds are a curious subject in that they are inescapable. Viewers of this show will certainly come into contact with clouds again. There will be future skies in company and solitude, day and night, rain and shine, where clouds are again the center of attention. The Cloud Show seeks to make these moments more frequent and more profound by celebrating clouds and the moments we take them in.
With a range of mediums, a space will be created that surpasses the norms of a traditional gallery. This curation is an art piece itself. A fleeting moment. An intimate experience. A cloud.
Participating artists: Coco Villa, Ian Stabler, Judit Just, Weeper, Court McCracken, Carmelo Pampillonio and Neil Goss
The Cloud Show will open on April 5, 2019 in the AAAC Exhibition Space with a reception from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. An artist talk will be given at 6:30pm.
