The Asheville Area Arts Council (AAAC) is teaming up with American Craft Week and Mountain Xpress to present the Western North Carolina Emerging Craft Artist Showcase to be on display from September 23 through November 23, 2016. The exhibition will be on view at our new location in The Refinery Creator Space, located at 207 Coxe Ave, Asheville NC 28801.  An Opening Reception for the exhibit will be held on Friday, October 7, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 p.m.

The exhibit will include 10 Western North Carolina based craft artists. Five were finalists in American Craft Week’s Rising Star Spotlight exhibit. The others have been nominated as prominent emerging artists by local arts and crafts professionals.  These artists are upholding a living craft tradition in Western North Carolina as well as sustaining and innovating the future of crafts in America.

We are celebrating American Craft Week in order to invigorate local handmade craft awareness and the rich history that exists in our region. American Craft Week is the nation’s largest celebration of handmade craft. Come get acquainted with Western North Carolina’s outstanding newcomers!  AAAC is excited to announce the exhibit will extended through November 23, 2016.
