T E X T I L E S: Traditional to modern | hand woven to hand dyed

These seven artists express their evolving response to the world through textiles.

Cassie Dickson, Catharine Ellis, Vicki Essig, Heather Allen Hietala, Amy Putansu, Kathie Roig, Barbara Zaretsky

Curated by Barbara Zaretsky

Barbara Zaretsky creates handcrafted decorative textiles for home and wardrobe. Her plant based dyes impart a distinctive earthy palette, yet her motifs veer toward the modern. The unexpected blend of the two influences is a hallmark of her approach, which equally honors graphic geometry and fluid, imprecise edges. Barbara has many pieces in private collections across the U.S. and abroad and her work has appeared in Metropolis, Victoria magazine, Southern Living, Our State and other regional, national and trade publications and blogs. Barbara launched BZDesign in Chicago in 1980, and opened Cloth Fiber Workshop, a textile arts learning center in Asheville in 2007. Both BZDesign and Cloth are located in Riverview Station in Asheville’s River Arts District.

The opening reception for  T E X T I L E S will be March 3, 2017 from 5 – 8pm in the Thom Robinson and Ray Griffin Gallery at the Refinery Creator Space on 207 Coxe Ave.
