Grass Roots Arts Program Grant Highlight

2018-19 Grant Applications due May 7th, 2018 at 5 PM

The Delta House Jazz Band is a jazz-oriented music appreciation program. This program was created in partnership with Delta House Life Development Inc. The Delta House Jazz Band is a weekly program of LEAF Schools & Streets.

This past year LEAF Community Arts received the Grassroots Arts Grant which was administered by the Asheville Area Arts Council. Cortina Caldwell had this to say about the program in relation to the Grassroots Arts Grant, “This grant helps to fuel our mission to use the arts to bridge cultures and create life-affirming, community building experiences – empowering our youth to become global citizens, leaders, and agents of positive change.”

The Delta House Jazz Band provides kids with a place to learn and grow. At the Delta House Life Development Center on S. French Broad Ave. “students are also able to get homework help, participate in a visual arts program, and get a nutritious snack. If not for this program, some students might go home to an empty house, or be left with nothing to do at all after school. In addition to the program after school, students enrolled are able to perform at LEAF Festival, participate in community events, including Homework Diner, In Real Life, and other art gatherings… We believe that the Asheville Area Arts Council will be a great partner in our efforts to create a pipeline of success for middle and high school students in Asheville & Buncombe County.” Cortina Caldwell said.

The Delta House Jazz Band helps create a supportive network of positive adult role models to support them. The Asheville Area Arts Council is incredibly proud to be able to help and be involved with this program. For more information about LEAF Delta House Jazz Band.
