Onyx Ball
2015 Onyx Ball
A Magical Masquerade

Everybody loves a party, especially one filled to overflowing with creativity and entertainment, great food, enchanting libations, cool costumes, and amazing art & music! The AAAC’s raucous Onyx Color Ball was held on October 31, 2015 with a few hundred attendees and volunteers to make the night a magical success.

2015’s color theme was Onyx, a deep dark black! With roving performers, magicians, music from local afro-pop group Zansa and a DJ set from Agent Adam Apollo the night was full of entertainment and wonderment.

With our live and silent auction highlighting works from local creatives and businesses alike the evening was an opportunity to blend the art appreciators and the artists themselves. For the first year ever, The Asheville Area Arts Council was able to pay artists a percentage of proceeds in efforts to support them in their art and were beyond thankful to each and every artist and buyer that participated.

The Onyx Ball featured a special performance by local band Zansa! The music of Zansa, a Nouchi slang word from Ivory Coast meaning “combination” or “blend,” is a synthesis of traditional and modern styles of West Africa. The Asheville, NC-based ensemble melds modern afropop with African folk music, African drumming, and the fiery dance-oriented Ivorian street music called Zouglou.

The Onyx Ball also featured a performance by Lycaonfire. Lycaonfire is an Alchemist of mystical movement. He weaves dream dances with crystal spheres, levitating wands, and illusory manipulation hoops. His stories stem from old-world mythologies, taking form in the contemporary world through extensions of the creative body. From the Dark ~ sprung forth all of the Mysteries.

Agent Adam Apollo

The Onyx Ball also featured a performance by Agent Adam Apollo. Agent Adam Apollo weaves beautiful compilations of tracks across genres of Chillstep, Downtempo, DubStep, Progressive Trance/Breaks, and Drum & Bass. He aligns the energy of sound to the vibration of space to enhance the existing environment, or shifts it toward greater celebration, peace, harmony, and joy.

Sneaky Mcfly

Sneaky employs a variety of skills and characters. and has studied and performed using stage hypnotism, classic magic, sleight of hand, juggling, acrobalance, mime, clowning, traditional and original fire manipulation, sideshow barker, emcee funny man, physical comedy, puppetry, and much more.
