The Asheville Area Arts Council is excited to announce the 2017 Color Ball color will be Indigo! On the evening of September 9, 2017, the Indigo ball with have attendees bouncing around town to themed parties and reconvening the for the Ball saturated in the color indigo. Each year a different color is chosen to lead the theme, entertainment, costumes, and amazing art and music of each party. The AAAC welcomes volunteers, sponsors, and attendees to get involved in this year’s Indigo Ball.

The AAAC Annual Color Ball includes:

  • Five parties (a patron’s party, three pre-parties, and the Ball!)
  • Local food and drink included in your ticket
  • Local performers and artists
  • Silent Auction

The Indigo Ball Schedule:

6:00 – 7:30 pm                  Out of the Blue Patron’s Party
7:30 – 9:30 pm                  Pre-parties at various locations
9:30 pm – midnight          Indigo Ball at the Orange Peel

Join us in the celestial space just beyond the earth’s atmosphere. Dance among the visible heavens and lose yourself in astral delights as we kick off the evening’s festivities with a party that will feature special surprises to celebrate our “star” donors, sponsors, and patrons.

Descend to Earth and hop on the complimentary  (first come, first serve) Gray Line trolley to your pre-party destination. Space on the trolley is not guaranteed.

Enter the deep and rich indigo hues of an underwater enclave as your senses awaken to a world viewed only by the world’s most mythical beings. Mingle with mermaids and other magical creatures beneath a shimmering ceiling of seaweed, aquatic life, and endless possibilities while enjoying delectable seafood from Chef Anthony Cerrato of Strada Italiano and The Social Lounge.

At the party’s conclusion, emerge from the sea and catch the complimentary (first come, first serve) Gray Line trolley to the Orange Peel for the final ball! Space on the trolley is not guaranteed.

“Flamenco Nights” at Asheville’s new AC Hotel is a Spanish-themed party with all of the energy of the great Andalusian dance known for colorful costumes, erotic movements, stamping of feet and clapping of hands.  Its execution is brilliant, noisy, and oh so passionate!  Come join us as we ‘Flamenco the Night Away.’ Guests will be treated to exciting street-level entertainment upon arriving to the AC Hotel by renowned guitarist Tim Doyle. From there you will enjoy savory and sweet Spanish tapas and roving bands of Latin dancers all while sipping on our signature cocktail – The Andalusian Passion!

At the party’s conclusion, click your heels down to catch the complimentary (first come, first serve) Gray Line trolley to the Orange Peel for the final ball! Space on the trolley is not guaranteed.

Tim Doyle is a 27-year veteran of the guitar, an active composer and recording artist whose style fuses flamenco techniques with jazz harmony and classical forms.



Traditional east meets the diverse west in this colorful event full of movement, sound, and intrigue. Dance through the futuristic orient bathed in light. Relish the iconic surroundings representing a culture steeped richly in tradition, yet newly alive and electric. A Japanese dye master Toru Shimomura describes his lifelong craft as “Indigo is alive, like human beings. A new born baby is full of energy while an old person has less energy but is full of depth and experience.” Let THIS experience move you … Kanpai!

As all the other parties wrap up around town, the main ball will just be getting started. Attendees of all the pre-parties will finally merge into one big, final bash. The Orange Peel will be transformed with art installations and enormous projections into a mystical, futuristic, and nearly alien land where anything is possible and the entertainment defies the imagination.

The evening will be bursting with performances that are as unique as the arts community we live in. Aerialists from Asheville Aerial Arts will suspend from the ceiling as the main stage sees performances by Nimbus, DJ M.P.Pride, an acro yoga duo, and then a very special collaborative performance by Stephanie Morgan and Marley Carroll.  Local artists Lara Nguyen and Kimi Leger will be painting live. Their work and other items will be offered as part of the Silent Auction.

Slip into the Climax Whiskey Lounge for a whiskey cocktail and a more subdued environment to recharge and rejoin the party.

Guests will also have a chance to purchase commemorative Indigo Ball photos from Indulge Images for $25. $5 of every purchase will support the Asheville Area Arts Council.

About the AAAC and Color Ball:

Since 2002, the Asheville Area Arts Council’s (AAAC) Color Ball has raised funds to support the grants, programs, and services of the AAAC. In the last year, the AAAC has continued established grants and programs, launched the Refinery Creator Space, increased membership 600%, and is set to launch a new signature Arts & Wellness program to support creative outlets for veterans who have PTSD and traumatic brain injury.
