Since 1977, the North Carolina Arts Council’s Grassroots Arts Program has provided North Carolina citizens access to quality arts experiences. Using a per capita based formula, the program provides funding for the arts in all 100 counties of the state through partnerships with local arts councils. We’re thrilled to have granted over $230,000 since 2014 to other nonprofits using the arts to do extraordinary work in Buncombe County through annual Grassroots Arts Grants.

In one of our favorite partnership efforts, the Asheville Area Arts Council serves as the Provisional County Partner to the North Carolina Arts Council in awarding these funds. And organizations use these dollars to fund artists and carry the arts into every corner of this county.

We’re proud of this investment in artists, and we invite you to read about our past recipients below. And take a look at our guidelines to see if your group is a good match to apply for a Grassroots Arts Grant.

The Grassroots Grant Program is made possible by individual and private contributions to the Asheville Area Arts Council’s—and by the Grassroots Arts Program of N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural & Cultural Resources.
