Teaching Artists Presenting in Asheville Area Schools (TAPAAS)

TAPAAS (Teaching Artists Presenting in Asheville Area Schools) is a collaborative effort which implements high-quality artist residencies in Asheville City and Buncombe County Schools while promoting and communicating the work of local artists. TAPAAS meaningfully integrates visual and craft arts, performing arts, and creative writing experiences into core curriculum in K-12 classrooms

“TAPAAS provided a multi-cultural, multi-modal learning experience for our children who might not otherwise have had this opportunity for learning.” – Buncombe County Schools Teacher

In 2021-22, Asheville Area Arts Council artist residencies served 482 students at 9 schools, and hired 11 teaching artists. With your support, we can provide these much needed programs to all 54 of our local public schools!

  • $2,500 (or $250 per month) – Provides 2-3 schools with multi-day teaching artist residencies
  • $1,000 (or $100 per month) – Provides 1 school with a multi-day teaching artist residency
  • $500 (or $50 per month) – Provides 1 school with a full day arts workshop
  • $250 (or $25 per month) – Provides art supplies for 30+ students

Arts Build Community Grant

Now in its 6th year, the Arts Build Community supports innovative, arts-based projects that inspire diverse groups of participants to be more active, involved, and  civically-engaged by creating together.  Grants range from $1,000-2,500 and focus on projects that impact low-income neighborhoods, Title 1 public schools, and communities in need.

The Arts Build Community grant program  is made possible by individual and private contributions to the Asheville Area Arts Council and Buncombe County Government. Your gift can make a lasting impact on our community – here are a few examples of what kind of an impact you can make:

  • $2,500 (or $250 per month) – Supports for the creation of arts-based community walking tours, art installations, or festivals.
  • $1,000 (or $100 per month) – Facilitates workshops for underserved community members facing poverty, mental illness, or addiction.
  • $500 (or $50 per month) – Provides full or partial artist stipends for community collaborations or residencies.
  • $250 (or $25 per month) – Buy supplies for youth in afterschool programs in jazz, woodworking, painting, mixed media, journalism, or theatre.
